Nelly Furtado’s ‘777’ Is Her First LP In 7 Years

Appropriately titled 7, Nelly Furtado has announced her seventh LP, and her first full length in seven years,

Slated for a September 20 release, the superstar singer/songwriter’s notice comes complete with her new single, “Corazón,” featuring the Colombian band Bomba Estéro.

Taking to Instagram, the Portuguese-Canadian chanteuse celebrated the song by writing “took two years to make, in three different cities, with an army of people.” “This is going to sound strange and stupid but this isn’t a job for me. It’s super personal. Music is my whole language and life and love and blessing, so sometimes it’s hard for me to wrap that up in a bow.”

One of the first songs the now 45-year old musician penned for her new LP, “Corazón” happened after a friend introduced Furtado to Bomba Estéro’s Liliana Saumet, which prompted Nelly to fly to Santa Marta, Colombia and start writing music with Saumet and others.

Consistently releasing singles over the past two years, her tracks have included collaborations “Keep Going Up” with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake, and “Gala y Dalí” with Juanes and her first 7 single, “Love Bites,” with Tove Lo and SG Lewis, back in May. Nelly’s upcoming collection follows her 2017 full length The Ride.

After spending several years focused on being a mother, after constantly hearing her old music all over the place, Furtado was inspired to get back to songwriting and recording, stating “I kept hearing my music being played and remixed by DJs, and at the same time, my eldest daughter was showing me how the online community — including a whole new audience of Gen Z fans — were discovering and embracing my music, 20 years later.” “I heard the calling!”

Nelly Furtado spent four years working on 7, during which she wrote 400 songs and collaborated with a bevy of international artists, songwriters, musicians, and producers from around the world.

“I found my voice again.” “I came to the studio lost and searching for my artistic identity. I had done a lot of reflection and self-work during my seven years outside of music so I was bringing that growth into the studio with me… This collection of songs is so personal. It reflects my journey through heartbreak and finding my confidence as an artist again, into the pure joy and celebration you feel when you’re nurturing your passion and are part of a community,” added Nelly.
