Concerning his rather abrupt exit from the Saturday Night Live stage earlier this year, Morgan Wallen has finally spoken out about the situation.
After serving as the musical guest on America’s longest running sketch comedy show in March, at the end of show the country music superstar was seen whispering something to guest host Mikey Madison. And, as the end credits began to roll, Wallen stepped off stage and walked through the audience and past the camera in front of him.
This never before experienced, swift departure sparked significant social media debate, and during a recent interview for Sundae Conversation with Caleb Pressley, Morgan finally addressed the controversy.
“Seriously, SNL, did they make you mad?” asked host Pressley.
“No, no,” replied Wallen. “I was just ready to go home. I’d been there all week.”
Shortly after his impromptu SNL departure, the musician posted a photo of a private jet with the words, “Get me to God’s country,” written in bold white text. And, at fter Pressley reminded the Grammy award winner about the social media text, Wallen simply smiled and said, “Yeah.”
While representatives for the 31-year-old singer/songwriter and SNL have yet to comment on the incident, longtime cast member Kenan Thompson previously criticized Wallen for not taking a minute to celebrate with Madison and the rest of the performers, telling Entertainment Weekly:
“Saturday, I guess it was just different because it just felt so abrupt. And it was already such a small grouping on the stage anyway. So, it was just like, ‘Oh wow, that was pretty visible.’ You know what I’m saying? It was a pretty visible thing.”
