Lizzo Returns To SNL: Look + Listen

Opening with a medley of the title track and “Still Bad,” Lizzo returned to Saturday Night Live this weekend with several songs from her forthcoming fifth studio full length, Love in Real Life.

Having taken a self-described “gap year” in 2024, in February the superstar singer/rapper dropped her first single since 2023.

Taking to Twitch stream on Valentine’s Day, the singer (born Melissa Viviane Jefferson) said “I want to introduce to you guys, the newest piece of content from the new era. I’ve been working on new music for the last two years.” “I took my time and I did it right. The new era has begun today, right now, with you, my chat.” And in March, she previewed her new LP during three live shows in Los Angeles, New York and Minneapolis, around the same time she dropped “Still Bad.”

During a former Apple Music 1 interview, the now 36-year old musician said “Recording ‘Still Bad’ was interesting because it started off as a country song and it was like, ‘I don’t need him, I need a drink.” “You know what I mean? I think this song is so interesting because like it was just, the sentiment was more important than the sound. The lyrics had to come from that, ‘I lost my dog, I need some whiskey,’ kind of like deep sadness or country kind of rhetoric.”

Dressed in a 1950s influenced Hollywood gown, Lizzo’s second performance was of “Don’t Make Me Love You.”

Following SNL‘s 2022 Christmas episode, Saturday (4.12) marked her third time on America’s longest running skit comedy show.
