Lily Allen Confirms New Album

Having written the record in just ten days, Lily Allen is ready to release her first album in seven years, since her fourth studio album No Shame dropped in 2018.

Featuring a “real outpouring of emotions,” the 40-year-old singer/songwriter has signed a deal with BMG for the secret project, and according to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column:

“Lily wants to really surprise people with this new music and everyone has been sworn to secrecy.” “It will tell the story of her move to New York and also how she coped with the breakdown of her marriage to David Harbour.” “There’s a real outpouring of emotions in it. She’s not had the easiest time and she’s ready to bare her soul.”

Including hit singles ‘Smile,’ ‘The Fear’ and ‘Not Fair,’ the British-born musician released four full lengths between 2006 and 2018

As reflected in increased royalty payments, in June, Allen spoke about how her music was going through “an actual resurgence” online among “young kids.” And it was during an appearance on her Miss Me? podcast, Lily stated:

“I do find it hard listening to that music. I’m not ashamed of it because I think it was good for what it was at the time. And actually I think it does still stand up …” “It’s having an actual resurgence on the internet. I know because my royalty payments are going up. There are young kids that are into my music now.”

How she’s “been tracking the new wave of interest through streaming data,” the songstress previously admitted that she was back in the studio working on new material, and said music was almost like her “therapy” after a tough year in which she split from her actor husband David Harbour, adding:

“Music is the one place where I can let it all go. It’s almost like therapy. I like to write and record at the same time with somebody else in the room – there’s something therapeutic about it.” “My producer or my co-writers become almost like therapists because I’m processing the things that I’m going through in real time …” “I can do that in music, but I can’t really do it when I’m talking to friends or my parents. It doesn’t mean I’m being inauthentic … I just don’t feel like I can sum things up properly. But I can do it in a three-and-a-half minute pop song.”
