For Dreamboy, his new full length, Lil Nas X has been accused of using previously designed artwork without giving sufficient credit.
On Wednesday (11.13,) dance artist Sega Bodega took to X and pointed out the similarities between the image the superstar rapper used for his new LP and the artwork Bodega used for his 2021 single ‘Angel on My Shoulder,’ along with the caption “Not even trying to put a spin on it is where I’m like yeesh.” “Anyway stream Angel on my shoulder.”
In each piece of art, the musicians are sitting in front of a vintage desktop computer in a dimly-lit wood-panelled room with a tall figure made of white light behind them.
Lil Nas fans subsequently pointed out that the Sony Music artist had acknowledged the similarities himself on Instagram Stories by sharing the ‘Angel on My Shoulder’ artwork and calling it a “ref” for his album cover.
When one fan told Bodega on X he was “ungrateful” and Lil Nas should “remove (his) credit”, the dance musician replied, “(I) can’t tell if this is a very good joke or not cause that’s literally what he did ahahah there is no credit (sic).”
Sega went on to explain that he didn’t consider Lil Nas’ post to be a sufficient credit as photos on Instagram Stories “disappear in 24 hours forever” and the rapper didn’t name him or the ‘Angel on My Shoulder’ artwork photographer Aidan Zamiri, adding “‘Be grateful!’ You lot sound insane.”
Earlier today (11.15) Lil Nas released ‘Light Again,’ the latest single from Dreamboy.
