Preempting a scheduled detention hearing for his ongoing legal battles around the murder of fellow rapper King Von, federal authorities have connected Chicago rapper Lil Durk to another fatal shooting in 2022,
Recently unsealed court records shed light on the rapper’s alleged involvement in the murder of gang leader Stephon Mack.
Born Durk Devontay Banks, the preeminent artist in the Chicago-based hip-hop drill music and father of five has been fingered as the brains behind the January 27 cold-blooded murder of 24-year-old Mack, who died outside the Youth Peace Centre of Roseland in Chicago.
At the time of his passing, Mack was the leader of a faction of Gangster Disciples, one of the most well-known street gangs in Chicago.
According to the legal documents submitted in the US District Court in Chicago, Durk offered rewards to those who killed the members of rival gangs who he assumed were behind the death of his brother Dontay in 2021.
Though Durk has not yet been formally charged in connection with Mack’s murder, federal investigators have dug through the evidence, including prison phone calls, social media chatter and the lyrics of Durk’s song ‘Ahhh Ha,’ which was released in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
