Iconic American jazz composer, pianist, and radio personality Ramsey Lewis died on Monday (9.12.) He was 87 years old.
Though no cause of death was given, the Grammy-winning pianist and composer’s Facebook page announcing the legend’s passing simply stated “died peacefully at his home in Chicago”.
At the news of his death, Earth, Wind & Fire singer Philip Bailey posted a tribute to Lewis on Twitter writing “Long Live the Legendary Ramsey Lewis… Our Great Friend and Jazz Icon. You will be sorely missed, and always remembered. God Bless and Keep you,”
And fellow Grammy-winning composer Christian McBride also honored the late Lewis, writing: “Another legend leaves us. Thank you for blessing our lives with such soulful music.”
Throughout this career Ramsey Lewis recorded over 80 albums, received five gold records, and was awarded thee Grammy Awards.
