Johnny Ramones Guitar Sells for the $900,000+ At Auction

A lead guitar played by Johnny Ramone for decades has sold for $900,000+ at auction when it went under the hammer in Boston at the weekend.

The 1965 Mosrite Ventures II electric guitar was used for all 15 Ramones albums and some 2,000 live performances since 1977.

In addition to the axe-slayer purchased by an American anonymous collector, other items sold at the RR Auction included the late musician’s Mark-2 signature guitar (for $50,000,) and the late lead vocalist Joey Ramone’s Shure mics (for $13,000) used at the last-ever Ramones concert at the Palace in Hollywood on August 6, 1996.

Guitarist Johnny (born John Cummings) died in 2004 from cancer and Joey (Jeffrey Hyman) passed away from lymphoma three years earlier.

Best known for classics such as ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’, ‘Sheena is a Punk Rocker’ and ‘I Wanna Be Sedated’, The Ramones were also comprised of late bassist Dee Dee Ramone (Douglas Colvin), who died in 2002, and drummer Tommy Ramon (Thomas Erdelyi), who passed in 2014.

Formed in 1974 and dissolved in 1996, the surviving members of the Ramones are bassist C. J. Ramone, and drummers Marky Ramone, Richie Ramone and Elvis Ramone.
