Iron Maiden Honored With 50th Anniversary Coin

In celebration of five decades since their 1975 formation, heavy metal icons Iron Maiden will be commemorated on an official UK coin.

Joining such previous honorees like Queen, Elton John, and David Bowie amidst the Music Legends series, the Royal Mint unveiled a striking new collector’s item featuring the band’s renowned mascot, Eddie.

Designed by Iron Maiden artist Albert ‘Akirant’ Quirantes, the coin’s artwork encompasses numerous hidden references to the band’s extensive career, albums, and global tours. The legendary rockers worked closely with The Royal Mint to ensure that the coin accurately captures the essence of their five-decade influence and the item is the first official product to bear the band’s 50th Anniversary logo. Hoping to capture the group’s iconic imagery and rebellious spirit, the artist described the project as “one of the most thrilling” of his career.”

Expressing the band’s gratitude, Iron Maiden’s Manager, Rod Smallwood said “Having Eddie on an official UK coin is a continuation of his incredible odyssey since we unearthed him back in 1980. We’ve been on stamps, beer bottles, plane tails and now legal tender!” He praised Quirantes’s detailed work, noting the subtle nods to the band’s journey.”

Director of Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint, Rebecca Morgan, addressed Iron Maiden’s role as “fearless pioneers in music, flying the flag for Britain around the globe for half a century,” adding that she anticipates the coin will become a highly sought-after collector’s item for both numismatists and rock enthusiasts.

The Iron Maiden commemorative coin is available in various editions, with prices starting from £18.50 and for more information and to view the full range, visit www.royalmint.com/ironmaiden.
