Concurrent with the legendary band’s 50th anniversary, Universal Pictures Content Group has stated production on an official Iron Maiden feature documentary scheduled for an Autumn 2025 international release.
What proves to be an emotional journey through the British group’s five decade-long history shot through the perspective lens of the band and some of their most devoted followers – including actor Javier Bardem, and fellow rockets Lars Ulrich and Gene Simmons – the feature film will include exclusive interviews with pivotal group members including the final interview with their original vocalist, Paul Di’Anno, who passed away in 2024.
Combining rare archival footage as well as all-new animated sequences of the rock act’s legendary mascot, Eddie, the movie will present a unique visual experience that highlights Iron Maiden’s Herculean impact and the strong alliance between the group and their committed global army of fans. The film addresses the cultural movement the musicians have helped shape and their legacy in both music and fan culture, challenging common perceptions of the wider significance of rock music and heavy metal.
Formed in 1975 in east London, Iron Maiden are considered pioneers of what was then a globally inspiring new wave of British heavy metal music, selling 100,000,000+ records worldwide, and performing more than 2500 concerts in 64 countries throughout 6 continents.
About the forthcoming documentary, Executive Vice President, Universal Pictures Content Group and Executive Producer, Helen Parker, said “We’re thrilled Iron Maiden have entrusted us to bring their legacy to cinemas around the world. Working closely with the band and their passionate fans has been an unrivalled experience allowing us to tell their story in a unique way and celebrate their incomparable fearless creativity in their 50th anniversary year.”
Iron Maiden manager, Rod Smallwood added We’re proud Universal Pictures Content Group has chosen to share the unique story of Iron Maiden with the world. We have given them unrestricted access to the band, our fans and musical peers. We trust that they will excite not only music fans but also anyone who loves a story of an underdog beating the odds to become and remain one of Britain’s biggest musical exports since our first record released 45 years ago.”
The as yet untitled Iron Maiden documentary is directed by Malcolm Venville (of Churchill at War fame) and produced by Dominic Freeman who was responsible for Spirits in the Forest – A Depeche Mode Film).
