Former frontman of the legendary Four Seasons, Frankie Valli, has just announced that Nick Jonas will portray the lead singer in upcoming Jersey Boys film for television.
Jonas grew up in Wyckoff, New Jersey before migrating to Los Angeles with his siblings and his band, the Jonas Brothers. His stage experience does not begin with the Jersey Boys reincarnation as the 28-year old superstar singer-songwriter began performing professionally in theater at the age of seven.
“[Jersey Boys] is being filmed for television and Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers is playing Frankie, and I’m really excited about that.” Valli told The Today Show. Frankie and his ties with both his band mates and his family are highlighted in Jersey Boys, a musical history about the rise and fall of the Four Seasons in the 1960s. Clint Eastwood adapted a previous version of the successful Broadway musical in 2014, starring John Lloyd Young as Frankie. Jonas was initially rumored to be in discussions to appear in the musical by Deadline in January, but little else has been verified about the project, including additional casting or a production date.
Given the popularity of Hamilton on Disney+, it makes sense for Jersey Boys to move in this manner, as reported as a potential “streamer.” Fans of both Jonas and the Jersey Boys can expect to hear Nick perform the iconic falsetto that made Valli famous in songs like “Rag Doll” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” There aren’t many musicians in Hollywood that fit the description of the tiny guy with a huge voice like Jonas does, so fans can’t wait to see what he achieves with the project as more details become available.
