After closing out the North American leg o his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour on Sunday (11.20) at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Sir Elton John traveled East to perform in the middle of New York City’s Fifth Avenue.
As part of his partnership with Saks Fifth Avenue department store, the legendary musician supported a curated holiday collection, proceeds from which will go to The Elton John AIDS Foundation.
On Tuesday night (11.22) the iconic singer/songwriter was the store’s special guest as Saks unveiled its famous holiday windows. Manhattan’s famed Fifth Avenue was shut down as a grand piano was rolled into the middle of the street, as Elton sat down at the keys and thanked Saks CEO Marc Metrick for the million-dollar donation, stating:
“This will help turbo charge our mission to end AIDS and it means a great deal to me to have your support –thank you so much.” “I’m so thrilled to kick off the holiday season tonight and be a part of this spectacular and iconic window unveiling and light show.”
The entire front of the Saks building was illuminated with a dazzling light show, as Elton performed “Your Song” to fireworks erupting from the top of the building. And after he left, the display continued, soundtracked to Elton hits like “Step Into Christmas.”
