In the latest encouraging sign that the world of entertainment is returning to pre-pandemic normalcy, Broadway theaters will no longer demand audiences wear masks effective July 2022.
In May, the lion’s share of Broadway theaters lifted the requirement that audience members provide proof of vaccination to enter venues, and on Tuesday (6.21) The Broadway League announced that making mask-wearing optional next month onward.
According to the statement issued by the League, which represents Broadway producers, their latest policy will “be evaluated on a monthly basis as we continue to monitor the science,” adding that “audience members are still encouraged to wear masks in theaters.”
Great White Way producers have long complained that ticket sales may be depressed due to the mask mandate and the Actors’ Equity Association, which represents 51,000 stage actors and stage managers, did not have a reaction to the change.
