Dionne Warwick Receives Kennedy Center Honor

On Monday (9.04) Dionne Warwick said that she was “thrilled” about being honored by the Kennedy Center for her lifetime achievement status.

In addition to joking that “it’s about time” she receives a Kennedy Center Honor, the now 82-year old singer said “It’s still a bunch of fun. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be doing it.” “When it becomes a job, that’s when you won’t see me anymore.”

Selling more than 100,000,000 records throughout her six decade-long career, based on her Billboard’s Hot 100 pop singles chart history, Warwick ranks among the 40 biggest American hitmakers between 1955 and 1999.

“It’s about time,” the singer joked of the honor. “I’m thrilled. I really am. I’m very excited about it. I feel so honored to be honored by the Kennedy Center.”

The five-time Grammy Award winner also told the outlet that she has her sights set on multiple other awards, stating “There’s still the Oscar, the Emmy, the Tony, not necessarily in that order.”

In addition to Dionne, Queen Latifah, Billy Crystal and Barry Gibb will also receive the annual lifetime achievement honors set to take place at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington D.C. on December 3.
