Depeche Mode founding member Andy “Fletch” Fletcher has died, He was 60 years old.
On Thursday (5.26), the members of legendary UK band announced:
“Fletch had a true heart of gold and was always there when you needed support, a lively conversation, a good laugh, or a cold pint.” “Our hearts are with his family, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy in this difficult time.”
Depeche Mode was founded in 1980 by Fletcher, front man/lead singer Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, and Vince Clarke who released their debut album, Speak & Spell, that included singles “Dreaming of Me,” “New Life,” and “Just Can’t get Enough.” Later that year, Clarke departed the band and was replaced by Alan Wilder. Depeche Mode had their first international hit with 1984’s “People are People.” Depeche Mode were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.
A source close to the band stated that Andy Fletcher died of natural causes.
