Demi Lovato has admitted “guilt” over the problematic behavior she exhibited as a child star.
Now 31 years old, the pop singer starred on Disney’s Camp Rock at the age 15, and quickly became a household name in the world of children’s television.
‘Traumatized’ by the experience of working at such a young age, the singer now says it led her to act out in ways she now regrets and in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she said:
“I didn’t realize that child stardom could be traumatic – and it isn’t traumatic for everyone, but for me, it was.”
In her new documentary, ‘Child Stars,’ Demi interviewed some of her fellow Disney alumni – including former Camp Rock co-star Alyson Stoner – who was straight forward about the experience.
Explaining Demi was known for having an explosive temper, the now 31-year old Stoner said “I remember a sense of walking on eggshells.”
In a 2010 incident that led to her checking into a treatment facility for substance abuse, Demi punched a backup dancer in the face.
“I think about people in the wardrobe department on my TV show because I’d go in there in bad moods all the time, and I worry about guest stars that came on or the other actors or the people during Camp Rock 2.” “And it’s easy to excuse that behaviour because I was so young and in so much pain, but I’m really remorseful, and that’s a guilt that stays with you forever,” said Lovato.
