Celine Dion Attends NHL Draft

On Friday (6.28,) Céline Dion surprised the sports-oriented audience by making an appearance at the first round of the National Hockey League (NHL) Draft in Las Vegas.

The French Canadian singer’s visit to the Draft was her first public event since the June 17 premiere of her documentary I Am: Céline Dion, that addresses her struggles with stiff-person syndrome, the rare progressive neurological disorder that causes muscle spasms.

Announcing 18-year old Russian hockey player Ivan Demidov as the the Montreal Canadiens’ fifth overall draft pick, the multi-Grammy award winner attended the event with her eldest son, René-Charles Angélil.

Taking to social media, alongside pictures of herself at the draft, the now 56-year-old chanteuse wrote (in French) on her Instagram “I was very happy to be able to announce the selection of the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft!” “Congratulations to Ivan Demidov! Thank you to the Canadiens for inviting me, and to the NHL for taking such good care of my family…we had a lot of fun!”

Since her December 2022 SPS diagnosis, Celine Dion has seldom appeared in public, yet she has been seen at NHL games in Las Vegas, where she resides, and made a surprise appearance at the 2024 Grammys in Los Angeles in February.
