Following its abrupt end halfway through his performance of ‘Piano Man’ on Sunday night (4.4,) Billy Joel‘s CBS special, ‘Billy Joel: The 100th – Live at Madison Square Garden’, will be re-aired.
After the legendary musician’s pre-recorded (March 28) concert film came to a sudden end prior to Joel finishing one of his most iconic songs, CBS-TV apologized for curtailing the broadcast two minutes early in some time zones because of a “programming timing error.” And due to “overwhelming demand” the network will now re-air Joel 100th Madison Square Garden show (originally filmed March 28,) on Friday (4.19) at 9pm ET/PT.
In a statement about the faux pax, CBS said “A network programming timing error ended last night’s Billy Joel special approximately two minutes early in the Eastern and Central Time Zones. We apologise to Mr. Joel, his fans, our affiliated stations, and our audience whose viewing experience was interrupted during the last song. Due to the overwhelming demand from his legion of fans, ‘Billy Joel: The 100th — Live at Madison Square Garden‘ will be rebroadcast in its entirety on CBS on April 19th at 9pm ET/PT.”
At a press conference held last year about his record setting MSG show run, the now 74-year old superstar singer/songwriter said “I’m kind of flabbergasted that it lasted as long as it did.” “My team tells me that we could continue to sell tickets, but 10 years, 150 shows – all right already!”
Joel is slated to complete his record-breaking stint at the iconic New York City venue, which launched in January 2014, on July 25, 2024, with his 150th show.
