Drawing 104,000 fans who stood in Seoul’s Gwanghwamun Square, along with millions more who tuned in via Netflix, on March 21, 2026 BTS made their long-awaited return to the stage.
Titled BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG, the hour long concert was a cinematic tribute to South Korean heritage, against the majestic backdrop of Gyeongbokgung Palace, that opened with a fusion of traditional instruments and modern synthesis. As 50 dancers formed a ceremonial path, the iconic KPop group emerged to a deafening roar, punctuated by RM’s simple, powerful greeting: “Hello, Seoul! We’re back.”
Focusing heavily on their record-breaking fifth studio album, ARIRANG, the 12-song setlist opened with, “Body to Body,” that sampled the traditional Korean folk song “Arirang.” Setting the tone of mature identity the show’s production featured geongongamri graphics – the trigrams from the South Korean flag – that symbolized the cosmic harmony of heaven, earth, water, and fire.
While the group’s bigger hits “Butter” and “Dynamite” provided predictable energy, the night’s mainstay was defined by their new material, with the lead single “SWIM” showcasing a refined, deliberate choreography that mirrored the group’s evolution into a more sophisticated era of artistry. As the walls of the historic palace were transformed by sweeping star-field projections, turning the square into a literal sea of light, the visual climax arrived during “Mikrokosmos.”
Having already shattered Apple Music records for the most-streamed pop group album in a single day, the BTS momentum shows no sign of slowing down and it won’t be long before the intimate documentary BTS: The Return, directed by Bao Nguyen, premieres via Netflix on March 27.
This historic night serves as the starting gun for the BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’, a massive 82-show global trek spanning 34 regions through 2027. If tonight was any indication, 2026 belongs entirely to them.
