Brandi Carlile + Elton John On Golden Globes

Making light of his deteriorating eyesight on Sunday night (1.05,) Elton John presented an award at the Golden Globes.

Taking to the stage to present the accolade for Best Original Score with fellow singer Brandi Carlile at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, the iconic musician used the opportunity to make fun of reports concerning his deteriorating eyesight, stating:

“I don’t know if you know, but there’s been a lot of stories going around about my regressive eyesight. I just wanted to reassure everybody that it’s not as bad as it seems.” “I’m so pleased to be here with my co-host, Rihanna.”

Having worked with John on the theme song ‘Never Too Late’ from his documentary of the same name, Carlile opened up the envelope and read the winner’s names, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for Challengers.

In September of last year, the now 77-year-old British musician shared that a severe eye infection had left him blind in his right eye and with “only limited vision” in his left. However, in December Elton revealed during a gala performance of The Devil Wears Prada Musical, for which he wrote the lyrics, that he had lost his sight altogether, telling the audience:

“Now, I have lost my sight and I haven’t been able to see the performance but I have enjoyed listening to it.”

Though Elton and Brandi’s ‘Never Too Late’ was not nominated for a Golden Globe, it is currently on the Best Original Song shortlist for the Academy Awards that will be televised on January 17.
