During the band’s Saturday (5.25) headlining gig at Napa Valley’s BottleRock, Pearl Jam surprised their audience by bringing Bradley Cooper on stage to perform “Maybe It’s Time” from his A Star Is Born.
With Eddie Vedder on acoustic guitar, the superstar actor/singer re-enacted his Jackson Maine character to deliver the Jason Isbell-written track, which Vedder himself had previously covered solo during a 2019 Tempe, Arizona music festival.
In an interview leading up to the release of the Oscar-nominated film, Cooper previously revealed that he contacted Vedder for insight into the rock star persona while writing his film character, asking “9,000 questions” of the Pearl Jam front man.
“[Vedder] gave me minor, little things that only musicians know about what to do, just aesthetically and the inner workings,” Cooper said; the actor-director also said Eddie discouraged Bradley from remaking A Star Is Born. “Bro, don’t do that,” Vedder told him.
In addition to performing “Maybe It’s Time” Cooper and Vedder performed their set-ending rendition of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.”
