Beach Boy Brian Wilson: Dead At 82

One of the most influential pop/rock musicians of all time., Brian Wilson has passed away. He was 82-years old.

Following years of dementia, on Wednesday (6.11,) his family announced that the co-founder and songwriter of the iconic The Beach Boys had died.

A formal statement posted on Wilson’s official website read “We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away.” “We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time, as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world.”

Born in Inglewood, California, on June 20, 1942, as a child Brian demonstrated an ability to recite music by ear and in 1961, Wilson alongside his brothers Dennis Wilson and Carl Wilson, cousin Mike Love, and their friend Al Jardine formed The Beach Boys.

The legendary West Coast musicians released their debut single in 1961 and enjoyed massive chart success with such songs as ‘Surfin’ U.S.A.,’ ‘I Get Around,’ and ‘Good Vibrations .’

Wilson was married twice, first to Marilyn Rovell (1964 -1979) and then Melinda Ledbetter (1995 until her death in 2024) and he shared daughters Carnie and Wendy with Rovell and later adopted five further children with Ledbetter who passed away in January 2024.

In February of 2024 it was made public that Brian Wilson had been diagnosed with dementia.

Mike Love and Al Jardine are now the last surviving original members of the group.
