Beach Boys Cancel Shows

After cancelling three shows this week within a day’s notice, the Beach Boys threw their tour into disarray.

Following a two-month break, the iconic group was originally scheduled to resume their tour starting with Big E Arena in West Springfield, Massachusetts, on Thursday (9,24), followed by the Univest Performance Center in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, on Friday (9.25), and the Alabama Theatre in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Sunday (9.27,) yet all three dates were suddenly wiped from the schedule.

Blaming “circumstances beyond the control” the Pennsylvania and South Carolina venue organizers left fans scrambling for answers and no explanation from the group.

Not their first set of cancellations, the latest update comes after the band axed a series of summer shows to give Mike Love the chance to “recharge”. Now 85-years old, Love is the only original member of the group which tours under the name the Beach Boys.

In celebration of the 60th Anniversary of 1996 record Pet Sounds, the California-based act called off some 30 US dates – including New York, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Tennessee and Wisconsin – so that Mike could rest. At the time, a message posted to Love’s Instagram read:

“Playing for you is the highlight of our summer every year – especially as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States while saluting the 60th Anniversary of Pet Sounds.” “We’ve been having a blast out there, and to keep the good vibrations going strong, we’ll be taking a short break to recharge before getting back on the road in September.” “All tickets for postponed performances (July 23 through September 3) will be honored following our return in late September. Please contact your local box office for additional information and questions.” “Thanks for your love – we can’t wait to see you back out there for a September to Remember … We look forward to continuing our Endless Summer with you.”

Until he retired from live performances earlier this year to focus on studio work. Bruce Johnston was previously part of the Beach Boys line-up, but he returned to the line-up briefly for the band’s three-night run at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in July.

Addressing the LA reunion, Brian said: “I am excited to join the Beach Boys for performances on special occasions and will see everyone at the Hollywood Bowl as we celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday.” “This isn’t goodbye, it’s see you soon. I am forever grateful to be a part of the Beach Boys musical legacy.”

The next Beach Boys show is scheduled for October 9 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois, before the tour moves on to Cincinnati and Nashville.

Former Beach Boys member Al Jardine continues to tour with his group Al Jardine and the Pet Sounds Band.
