In a lawsuit filed in Puerto Rico, Bad Bunny has been taken to court by a woman who claims her voice has been sampled without permission on two of his hit songs,
According to the case, Tainaly Serrano Rivera is heard speaking on the track ‘EoO’ from the superstar singer/songwriter’s latest LP, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, and on ‘Solo de Mi,’ from Bad Bunny’s 2018 debut album, X 100pre.
The sample in question supposedly features Rivera saying in Spanish, “Mira, puñeta, no me quiten el perreo,” which translates roughly to, “Listen, damn it, don’t take away my vibe.” Rivera alleges that she recorded this phrase at the request of Bad Bunny’s producing partner, La Paciencia, when they were in college together back in 2018.
Originally filed in Spanish and translated by Billboard, the lawsuit reads:
“At the time of the request, the purpose of the audio was not explained, nor was the plaintiff informed that her identity would be used and commercially exploited.” “No compensation of any kind was discussed. No contract or agreement was signed, nor was any license or authorization granted.”
For violations of Puerto Rico’s right of publicity statute, the plaintiff is now suing and seeking a $16,000,0000.00 in damages from the Latin musician (born Benito Martínez Ocasio), La Paciencia (born Roberto Rosado), and the star’s record label, Rimas Entertainment.
Rivera is represented by the same legal team that sued Bad Bunny in 2023 for allegedly featuring the voice of his ex-girlfriend on the tracks ‘Pa’ Ti’ and ‘Dos Mil 16’ without her consent. Settlement details in that case were not made public.
