Come October 29, The B-52s will be honored with the 2,861st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, located at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard in front of Amoeba Music.
In a statement about the forthcoming event, Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said:
“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome the B-52s to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.” “Honoring The B-52s with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is a celebration of their unforgettable music, fearless spirit and the nostalgia they’ve created for generations of fans. Their unique sound and energy have truly become part of Hollywood’s musical history.”
Hosted by SiriusXM radio personality Richard Blade, The Go-Go’s (who received their star in 2011,) and musician/actor/comedian Fred Armisen are scheduled to speak at the live-streamed event.
Having peaked at #4 on the US Billboard 200, The B-52s peaked in 1989 with their album Cosmic Thing, that included back-to-back hit singles, ‘Love Shack’ and ‘Roam.’
While original lineup consisted of Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson, Ricky Wilson and Keith Strickland, Wilson passed away from an AIDS-related illness in 1985, and Strickland stopped touring with the band in 2013.
Following several farewell tour announcements, the iconic dance/rock act will conclude its current Cosmic De-Evolution Tour, along with co-headliners Devo, in Palm Desert, California, on October 31.
