Sweden’s biggest musical export, ABBA are set to release new music next week in advance of their hologram comeback tour.
Made up Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, the ‘Dancing Queen’ hitmakers will drop their first new material in 39 years as they make a long-awaited comeback, Coupled with with a special visual show entitled ‘ABBA Voyage’ will be a documentary-style film following their work on new material to creating a special purpose-built venue in East London for their Holograms show, due to open in May 2022. Images of the musicians called ‘ABBA-tars’ will be beamed onto the stage performing their timeless music with the ability to speak with the audience.
Since 2019 ABBA have collaborated with ‘Pop Idol’ creator Simon Fuller on the plans and a project insider said: “Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha and Anni-Frid have been waiting for this moment for so long, they’re pinching themselves” with the quartet expected to attend the UK opening performance.
In May, Bjorn confirmed new music was on the way when he said: “There will be new music this year, that is definite, it’s not a case anymore of it might happen, it will happen.”
Marking the 50th anniversary of the first meeting between songwriters Bjorn and Benny, ABBA performed together for the first time in decades at a private 2016 event. The group went their separate ways in 1982.
