Following a decade-plus marriage to his wife, Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho, U2 bassist Adam Clayton has confirmed his divorce.
In a statement to England’s Sunday World, the musician’s spokesperson confirmed the news saying the pair have “amicably divorced” adding:
“After more than 10 years of marriage, musician Adam Clayton and lawyer Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho have amicably divorced.” “Both will continue to be fully involved in the care of their daughter and they request that the family’s privacy be respected.”
Married in Dublin in September 2013, the newlyweds held a second ceremony days later on the French Riviera at a 14th-century château, with Adam’s band mates Bono and The Edge in attendance.
In celebration of the July 2017 birth of their daughter Alba, the proud couple placed a personal advert in the Irish Times newspaper “Adam and Mariana Clayton are delighted to announce the birth of their beautiful baby girl Alba.”
Prior to his marriage to Mariana, the rock star was once famously engaged to supermodel Naomi Campbell who said that she had good memories of their time together, telling the Irish Independent, “I only have very positive things to say about him. I am very proud of Adam.”
Alongside fellow bandmates Bono, The Edge and Larry Mullen Jr., Clayton became a founder member of U2 in 1976.
