As the superstar rapper/writer helped kick off the first round if the 2024 NFL draft (4.25,) Eminem announced his twelfth studio album by sharing a trailer for a fake true crime series called Detroit Murder Files.
Killing off his alter ego with his forthcoming full length The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), the musician (born Marshall Mathers) presented a teaser of the show’s host discussing the death of Eminem’s long-running alter ego, Slim Shady.
In the trailer, the voice over states “Through his complex and oft-criticised, tongue-twisting rhymes, the blond anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies” adding “The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise. Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady.”
Fellow rap icon 50 Cent makes a cameo appearance, and giving his testimony in a hotel room says “He’s not a friend, he’s a psychopath,” followed by Eminem who appears as another talking head, saying, “I knew it was only a matter of time for Slim.”
Released this summer, Em’s new LP follows the The Real Slim Shady rapper’s 2020 record Music to Be Murdered By.
Ever since the 1997 Slim Shady EP and the 1999 album The Slim Shady LP, Slim Shady has been Eminem’s alter ego, and his longtime collaborator Dr. Dre revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in March that he has songs on Eminem’s next album, stating:
“Eminem is working on his own album which is coming out this year and I actually talked to him and he said it was okay for me to make that announcement right here on this show.’ “I’m actually going to hear the entire album for the first time tomorrow.”
