Professionally known as King Princess, singer/songwriter Mikaela Straus, delivered “Let Us Die” on The Tonight Show (8.02.)
On the musician’s sophomore album Hold On Baby, “Let Us Die” features a performance by the late Taylor Hawkins on drums. And recalling her experience working with the former Foo Fighters’ member, Straus wrote on Instagram “Taylor wasn’t only down to play on the song, but he was also the most encouraging and wonderful presence during that session.” “I started sobbing at one point and Mark [Ronson] couldn’t stop smiling. I have never felt so lucky.” During King Princess’ appearance on Fallon, Hawkins’ name “Taylor” was displayed on a kick drum.
In addition to Hawkins, Hold On Baby includes several high-profile collaborators including the production and songwriting skills of Mark Ronson and the National’s Aaron Dessner.
“Let Us Die” was preceded by album singles “Change the Locks,” “Cursed,” “Too Bad” and “For My Friends.”
