In response to Lorde‘s new track “Solar Power” single, many a music fan mentioned it obvious similarity to George Michael‘s massive hit, “Freedom ’90”.
In response to the comparison between the two compositions, on June 18th George Michael’s Estate issued a statement on the late singer’s official website allowing Lorde permission to move forward without any ramifications, stating:
“We are aware that many people are making a connection between George Michael’s Freedom ’90 and Lorde’s Solar Power, which George would have been flattered to hear… So, on behalf of one great artist to another, we wish her the best of luck with the single.”
In a recent interview with Stephen Colbert, Lorde stated the the ‘Solar Power’ single artwork was taken by a friend. “It was just me on the beach jumping over a friend… It’s a little hardcore, but it made me so happy.” The New Zealand singer described it as “innocent, playful, and a little feral” and expressed her enthusiasm by saying, “I’m really excited, yeah.” “It doesn’t seem real, but I’m really excited. I’m pleased the scheduling worked out so we could do a tour because this record is so joyous and large and such a nice thing to experience with a group of people.”
