The impact of Framing Britney Spears, a collaborative New York Times and FX documentary on Hulu about the iconic pop singer, has been undeniable, with many an artist and celebrity rallying around the artist who’s been portrayed as a prisoner for years by her own legal situation.
In an Instagram note to fans on Tuesday (3.30), Spears shared her feelings about the documentary that premiered in February. “My life has always been very speculated…watched…and judged really my whole life,” shared the artist along with a video of herself dancing. Alluding to the Framing film later in the caption, Britney revealed that she hadn’t watched the film in its entirety, though she does feel “embarrassed” by what she’s seen. “I didn’t watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in…. I cried for two weeks and well…I still cry sometimes!!!!”
With Samantha Stark and senior story editor Liz Day having had difficulty getting in contact with the superstar it’s not surprising that Britney didn’t participate in the production due, in large part, to her conservatorship on which much of the recent uproar has been focused. “So, in some ways we weren’t surprised that we weren’t able to get her to participate but I think not even getting a response or knowing whether or not she fully, truly received the request was somewhat surprising,” Day added.
