The Foo Fighters‘ Dave Grohl is known for his gritty, growl stylings, but the former Nirvana drummer just traded in his rock roots for a cover of the Bee Gees‘ Disco hit “You Should Be Dancing,” complete with convincing falsetto lyrics.
In a recent interview for BBC Radio 2‘s Sofa Session with Jo Whiley, the American band revealed their versatility when they previewed their version on the 1976 Billboard Hot 100 hit that was originally featured as part of the legendary Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.
Following the performance, Grohl explained to Whiley that the band had been in the studio with a to-do list – which included recording a cover song for the UK media hostess – when one of the guys asked if he had seen the recent Bee Gees documentary, The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart. “I was like the last person on Earth – the only person – that hadn’t seen it. So I was just like, ‘Why don’t we do a Bee Gees song?'” Grohl recalled. “Someone was like, ‘How do you want to do it?’ And I said, ‘Well, let’s do it like the Bee Gees.'”
Here’s a clip of the Foo Fighters’ cover and listen to the entire song and interview on the BBC’s website.
