Discussing her battle with alcoholism, Jessica Simpson has described herself as a “work in progress.”
During her Monday (6.01) night performance at the Yaamava Resort & Casino in California, during which she debuted her unreleased song ‘Give It All Away,’ co-written with Linda Perry, the 45-year old singer/fashionista explained how her recovery from addiction had inspired the lyrics, adding:
“I realized that the drinking wasn’t numbing my pain, it was actually causing more pain.” “In all honesty, I’m just a work in progress, and I celebrate each and every day that I feel alive and in my body, and I’m very proud of myself.”
Candid about her sobriety journey, the Texas-born songstress addressed her past health struggles. Urging her fans to be kind to themselves, Simpson offered hope to those who may be struggling with similar addiction issues, stating:
“It felt right to share this song with you and I want all of you to know that you should have a little grace for yourself and everything is gonna be okay if you just give it all away, and that’s what this song is about.”
Taking to social media in November of 2025, Jessica celebrated eight years of sobriety, and revealed how tackling her alcoholism had transformed her life and allowed her to develop a newfound inner strength.
“Alcohol silenced my intuition, blocked my dreams and chased my circulating fears of complacency. Today I am clear. Today I am driven by faith,” she wrote on Instagram.
Reaching her rock bottom when she was unable to help her three children get dressed for Halloween in 2017, in her 2020 memoir Open Book, the musician/entrepreneur wrote “It was 7.30 in the morning and I’d already had a drink.”
