Quincy Jones Estate Sells Music Catalogue

On Thursday (3.12,) HarbourView Equity Partners confirmed the acquisition of a portion of Quincy Jones’ music catalogue.

Noting that it’s taken ownership of Quincy’s selected music and non-music assets for an undisclosed amount, the deal covers parts of the late superstar producer’s recorded and publishing catalogue, along with rights connected to his involvement in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Speaking on behalf of the family, the musician’s daughter Rashida Jones, said the agreement ensures her father’s work will be managed responsibly. And highlighting her dad’s protracted history of creative innovation, she said the estate’s priority is to protect both the catalogue and the values behind it, adding:

“What made him extraordinary was his ability to see around corners and bring together the right people, ideas, and sounds to create timeless work again and again.” “As his children, our responsibility is to protect not only the catalogue, but the spirit and love behind it. HarbourView understands that legacy and has the vision and expertise to help ensure that future generations can feel the full scope of his everlasting impact.”

Throughout his 70-year career, Jones won 28 Grammy Awards – including his production work Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad albums as well as the charity single ‘We Are the World’ – and earned seven Oscar nominations.

The latest HarbourView acquisition adds to their growing list of more than 70 catalogues – including rights to Kelly Clarkson, T-Pain, George Benson, Luis Fonsi, Christine McVie and Pat Benatar repertoire – and about their most recent purchase, the company’s CEO Sherrese Clarke called Quincy “a once-in-a-century architect of culture” and said the company intends to preserve his influence while expanding opportunities for audiences to engage with his work.
