On Saturday night (10.26), during the Surprise Songs segment of her New Orleans concert, Taylor Swift brought out the unannounced guest (and former Eras Tour opening act) Sabrina Carpenter.
Preempting their duet the multi-Grammy award winner told her audience:
“I think tonight I’m going to do something different, I’m gonna sing a song that’s not mine but it’s someone that I really love so I’m going to see how loudly you can sing the song.” “It’s been stuck in my head, and it would make feel good if I knew 65,000 other people had this song stuck in their head just as I do.”
Whilst strumming her acoustic guitar, Taylor launched into a few lyrics from Carpenter’s “Espresso,” before saying “I love my friend and I’m just so proud of Sabrina,” subsequent to which she called Carpenter live on stage, putting the call on speaker. “I’m actually performing in New Orleans… I just wanna tell you I sang a little bit of ‘Espresso’ and they all sang so loud,” Swift told Sabrina, who then revealed she was also in the Caesars Superdome.
Following their brief phone chat, Carpenter appeared onstage, where she joined Swift for a mash-up of “Espresso,” followed by 1989 (Taylor’s Version)’s “Is It Over Now?” and Carpenter’s hit “Please Please Please.”
During the latter part of 2023, Sabrina served as the Eras Tour opening act (during the Latin American leg) and early 2024 (on the Australia and Singapore stops), before her breakout summer that began with “Espresso.”
Not the first time the two superstars sang together, on February 23 of last year they performed together onstage when Carpenter also came out during the Surprise Songs portion for a mash-up of “White Horse” and “Coney Island.”
