During their Thursday (10.03) live stream, Linkin Park band members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Dave ‘Phoenix’ Farrell, and Joe Hahn announced that their reunion after seven years apart and confirmed Emily Armstrong as the group’s new singer.
Following the premature passing of former lead singer Chester Bennington in 2017, the iconic rockers went on an indefinite hiatus.
Included in their relaunch, Shinoda named Dead Sara star Armstrong as co-vocalist and Colin Brittain as the new drummer, stating:
“The more we worked with Emily and Colin, the more we enjoyed their world-class talents, their company, and the things we created.” “We feel really empowered with this new lineup and the vibrant and energised new music we’ve made together. We’re weaving together the sonic touchpoints we’ve been known for and still exploring new ones.”
In addition, Linkin Park announced their brand new single, ‘The Emptiness Machine,’ from their forthcoming (November 14) LP, From Zero, and plans for a six-stop arena tour.
Addressing their decision to reunite, Shinoda explained that it happened gradually, over an extended period of time:
“Before Linkin Park, our first band name was Xero. This album title refers to both this humble beginning and the journey we’re currently undertaking. Sonically and emotionally, it is about past, present, and future – embracing our signature sound, but new and full of life,” the 47-year-old continued. “It was made with a deep appreciation for our new and longtime bandmates, our friends, our family, and our fans. We are proud of what Linkin Park has become over the years, and excited about the journey ahead.”
In advance of shows starting in Los Angeles on September 11 and wrapping up at Bogota, Colombia on November 11, pre-sale for tickets to the From Zero World Tour will launch on Friday (10.11.)
