In the new trailer for the parody artist’s parody biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, former Harry Potter star, Daniel Radcliffe plays Weird Al and the not-so-true story of Al’s famous life is set for a November 4 release on The Roku Channel streaming service.
As one would expect the Weird trailer runs through several touchstones of a typical musician biopic though seen through a fittingly strange Weird Al filter. Such scenes include the musician’s childhood Polka obsession, a sequence where his friends are blown away by an improvisational rendition “My Bologna,” and his descent into strife and ruin courtesy of Madonna (played by Evan Rachel Wood). There’s even Dr. Demento, a suspicious older promoter (played by Rainn Wilson from The Office) who wants to leverage Al to help his own career.
Directed by Eric Appel (Silicon Valley) and written by Appel and Al Yankovic himself, the biopic also stars Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary) as Oprah Winfrey, Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!), Toby Huss (Halt and Catch Fire), Julianna Nicholson (I, Tonya), and Spencer Treat Clark (Agents of SHIELD).
