While today’s Tom Brady headlines remain focused on his latest announced retirement, the ’80 For Brady’ movie-related single makes it’s formal Billboard pop chart debut.
Performed by Dolly Parton, Belinda Carlisle, Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Estefan and Debbie Harry and written by Diane Warren , “Gonna Be You” debuts onto Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart at #42 with 2,000 downloads sold between 1.20.23 and 1.26.23.
The collaborative song accompanies the just released 80 for Brady movie, which the football superstar co-produced and acts in. The comedic film follows four friends – played by legends Sally Field, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Lily Tomlin – who travel from Massachusetts to Texas to see the quarterback, then playing for the Patriots, in Super Bowl LI in 2017.
The just released “Gonna Be You,” video features Parton, Carlisle, Lauper and Estefan all wearing Brady’s #12 Patriots uniform and also marks the latest chart entry for each singer. Blondie boasts four Hot 100 #1s, Estefan three, Parton and Lauper two each and Carlisle one, totaling, aptly for Brady, 12.
Said Warren about her recently penned pop chart single, “Since ’80’ was in the [movie’s] title, I got a crazy idea: Why not get some of the most iconic singers from the ’80s, who are still amazing and always will be, to all sing it?! Everyone I approached said yes and was just as excited as me!”
