The Weeknd, Da Baby, and Pop Smoke Lead Billboard Music Award Nominations

Three weeks away from the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, the top three most nominated artists include The Weeknd with 16 nods, DaBaby with 11, and Pop Smoke with 10.

Canadian native, The Weeknd, has arguably had one of the most successful 2020-2021 campaigns of any artist. With the release of his 2x platinum album After Hours, the singer/songwriter shook the world with over 480,000 sales in the United States alone. Born Abel Makkonen Tesfaye) the Republic Records talent is currently nominated for: Top Artist; Top Male Artist; Top Hot 100 Artist; Top Streaming Songs Artist; Top Song Sales Artist; Top Radio Songs Artist; Top R&B Artist; Top R&B Male Artist; Top Billboard 200 Album; Top R&B Album; Top Hot 100 Song Presented by Rockstar; Top Streaming Song; Top Selling Song; Top Radio Song; Top R&B Song; Top Latin Song. Following a phenomenal Superbowl performance, the Weeknd was debatably snubbed at this year’s Grammy Awards.

Over the past year, Cleveland, Ohio-born, DaBaby has driven up his stock exponentially. With the release of his 1x platinum junior album, Blame It On Baby, the artist (born Jonathan Lyndale Kirk) enjoyed over 273,000 in US sales. With respect to his Billboard nominations, the Interscope recording artist is currently up for Top Hot 100 Artist; Top Streaming Songs Artist; Top Rap Artist; Top Rap Album; Top Hot 100 Song Presented by Rockstar; Top Streaming Song (x2); Top Collaboration (Fan Voted) (x2); Top Rap Song; Top R&B Song.

Rounding out the Top 3 the late rapper, Pop Smoke, who is nominated for 10 Billboard awards. With his premature passing in early 2020, the rap music world has changed immensely and Pop’s trademarked “Woo” has been survived by several notable rappers. 50 Cent posthumously executively produced Pop’s first studio album, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon which was eventually released in July of 2020. Survived by his family, Smoke is up for Top Artist; Top New Artist; Top Male Artist; Top Billboard 200 Artist; Top Hot 100 Artist; Top Streaming Songs Artist; Top Rap Artist; Top Rap Male Artist; Top Billboard 200 Album; Top Rap Album.
