In a night annually filled up with the year’s best pop culture moments, the surprising collaborations, and great performances, the May 23, Billboard Music Awards 2021 dazzled!

One of the first award shows of it’s kind to embrace the newly relaxed pandemic restrictions, the indoor and outdoor celebrations featured outstanding performances by the likes of Doja Cat ft SZA, P!nk, Duran Duran, The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, BTS, Alicia Keys, and more!

The Weeknd (finalist in 16 categories) took home 10 awards including Top Artist and Top 100 Artist, while Taylor Swift won for Top Female and Top 200 Artist, BTS for Top Duo or Group, while DaBaby (11 categories, including multi-finalist in the Top Streaming Song category for “Rockstar” and “Whats Poppin,”) and Megan Thee Stallion (including Top Female Artist and Top Rap Female Artist) were among the bastion of artists nominated in various categories.

This years posthumous nominations included Pop Smoke who took home Top New Artist, and first-timer Gabby Barrett, took home Top Country Female Artist with the most nods this year.

The ceremony, which was hosted by Nick Jonas (who tweeted about his “preemptive “Best Host Ever” award) who, along with his brothers, closed the show with their medley alongside Marshmello.

In addition to the aforementioned annual categories, P!nk received Billboard’s Icon Award and Drake was honored with Billboard’s Artist Of The Decade Award.

If you’re curious how the votes are tallied, Billboard Music Awards nominations and winners are determined by Billboard and its data collaborators – including MRC Data – based on key audience experiences with music, such as album and digital song sales, downloading, radio airplay, touring, and social participation. Top Social Artist and Top Collaboration, on the other hand, are fan-voted groups.
