After being found in contempt of court, Teyana Taylor has been ordered to pay her ex-husband Iman Shumpert $70,000.00
Married between 2016 and 2023, the singer/actress and the basketball player accused each other of being in contempt of court for allegedly violating the terms of their 2024 divorce judgment.
After the former spouses attended a court hearing on July 25 to present testimony about their respective allegations, the judge issued his final order on August 5, agreeing that Taylor willfully violated their divorce judgment by disclosing its details in an Instagram video in March.
“The court finds (Taylor) in violation of the Final Judgment and Decree of Divorce and is in willful contempt,” read the documents. Elsewhere in the verdict, the judge denied Teyana’s request to find the athlete in contempt of court, insisting that she had failed to “present sufficient evidence” to back up her claim that he leaked details about their divorce judgment to the media.
“It appears Taylor and her counsel failed to engage in even a minimal amount of diligence to determine whether her claim of contempt had any factual support at all before the petition was filed,” the order read.
Now 34-year-old, Teyana has two weeks to pay Shumpert’s attorney $70,000 in legal fees and the judge also denied her request that her former husband pay her legal fees.
Shumpert had also accused the songstress/thespian of being in contempt of court for allegedly violating their parenting plan, but the claim was denied, with the judge ruling that he failed to prove that she was “willfully contemptuous”.
Taylor and Shumpert share two daughters: Junie, nine, and Rue, four, and she is now dating actor Aaron Pierre.
