If the 2023 MTV EMAs had moved forward as originally scheduled on November 5, Taylor Swift would’ve been the night’s biggest winner!
Citing, “volatility of world events,” MTV canceled the awards two weeks prior to the event that was to take place in Paris.
On Sunday night (11.05,) in lieu of the formal annual ceremony, the video network released the complete list of winners, saying, “as fans worldwide voted for their favorite categories including best artist, best song and more, MTV is recognizing the following artists with 2023 MTV EMAs.”
In total Swift won took home three awards – including best artist, best live and best video for “Anti-Hero” while the best US act went to Nicki Minaj, who also grabbed the trophy for best hip-hop.
Jung Kook, who just unveiled his debut album, and Måneskin each snagged two awards. Jung Kook won best K-pop and best song for “Seven,” featuring Latto. Måneskin won best rock and best Italian act. And France’s own David Guetta received the award for best electronic.
Had it taken place live, the 2023 EMAs would’ve been broadcast on MTV in 150+ countries in addition to streaming online via Pluto TV and Paramount+.
In a statement at the time of cancelation, Paramount said “The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music.” “As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a moment for a global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a moment of mourning.”
