In response to The Tortured Poets Department album making an historic debut atop the Billboard 200, Taylor Swift reacted to the news that she’s scored her 14th #1 album.
Taking to her social media platforms, the multi-Grammy award winning musician wrote “My mind is blown.” “I’m completely floored by the love you’ve shown this album. 2.6 million ARE YOU ACTUALLY SERIOUS?? Thank you for listening, streaming, and welcoming Tortured Poets into your life. Feeling completely overwhelmed.”
Tying with Jay-Z for the most #1 charting LPs among solo artists in the nearly-70-year history of Billboard’s Top 200 chart, The Tortured Poets Department debuted with 2,610,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States within the first week of release.
Not only does Swift lock up the #1 album slot, but Tortured Poets is also this year’s top-selling album, with the largest streaming week ever, and the biggest sales week for vinyl in the modern era.
“I was already so fired up to get back to the tour but you doing THIS?? May 9th can’t come soon enough,” shared Swift who took the opportunity to upload some behind-the-scenes photos from the making of the album, including snapshots with Post Malone and Florence Welch.
While preparing for and embarking on The Eras Tour, the superstar singer/songwriter wrote, recorded, and released her current 31-song collection.
With 19 chart-toppers, only The Beatles, have more #1 American charting full lengths than Taylor Swift.
