In her new video for the single “Greedy,” Tate McRae embraces her Canadian heritage and her country’s obsession for hockey which she said represents a “new chapter of my music.”
Released on Friday (9.15,) the Aerin Moreno-directed video starts with the pop star driving a Zamboni around an ice rink prior to footage of the singer dancing inside the arena’s locker room.
In a formal press release about her new song, McRae said “I wrote ‘Greedy’ about having the confidence to know what you want.” “I feel like this is the first time where people are seeing a feistier and more playful side of me. This song is so unexpected, and I cannot wait for everyone to hear it.”
Co-written with and produced by Ryan Tedder, Amy Allen, and Jasper Harris, ‘Greedy’ is Tate’s first solo offering since ’10:35,’ her 2022 collaboration with Tiësto that appeared on last years I Used to Think I Could Fly LP.
Tedder, who co-wrote the song, spoke to Rolling Stone about how promoting songs on TikTok has negatively affected songwriters. Yet in the case of “Greedy,”, the OneRepublic frontman applauded McRae and her record company, RCA, for how they addressed the rollout, stating:
“Because of that, we were like ‘please go tease the shit out of this thing, Go nuts,” said Ryan of the track that went viral before its release. “Whether the song is a hit or not, I couldn’t be happier with how she and the label handled it, and I think that’s a good representation of how it can work.”
Tate McRae is currently on her Are We Flying Tour throughout the the U.S. with scheduled stops in New York, Nashville, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Seattle through October 13.
