Over the weekend SZA discretely released ‘Nightbird’, ‘I Hate You’ and ‘Joni’ on an unnamed SoundCloud page.
Taking to Twitter to confirm that the three titles are, indeed, her new songs (by linking the account), the artist (born Solána Imani Rowe) wrote “dumping random thoughts. (sic)” though it’s not known if the tunes will appear on her highly-anticipated second studio album.
The latest trio of tracks follow the RCA recording artist’s performance of her new song, ‘Shirt’ during a live-streamed gig last month.
The 30-year-old musician hopes her fans will be “pleasantly surprised” by her long-awaited follow-up full length to 2017’s ‘Ctrl’ and the ‘Kiss Me More’ singer teased “I’m actually probably about to scrap all of it and start from scratch. I think they’ll be surprised to know that it’s not what they thought, and it’s not coming when they thought. “I hope that they’ll be pleasantly surprised.”
In related news SZA recently opened up about her “debilitating anxiety” and how it makes it difficult for her to be outside. At the Billboard Music Awards 2021 in May, where she walked the red carpet and performed on stage with Doja Cat, the musician admitted that her anxiety struggles sometimes make it hard for her to go out at all.
Along with a collection of of Instagram posted pics from the annual music event, the singer/songwriter said: “I hate being outside more than I can explain. I really have debilitating anxiety and I’m only posting these cause Y’all woulda found em anyway. Thank you to my team n my mama. Least I’m alive (sic)”
Having struggled with anxiety all her life and insisting people “not to invite her” to things,” she wrote: “I have way too much anxiety to be outside. I’m begging u not to invite me to s***.”
