a.k.a. DJ Diesel, Shaquille O’Neal has aligned forces up with Steve Aoki for “Welcome to the Playhouse” and the club-ready anthem arrives via Dim Mak complete with an animated music video.
Friends for years, the sports and club culture legends announced the release via Instagram when Aoki confirmed “Shaq goes hard on the mic!!!”
The collaborative single arrives ahead of Fun House, Shaq’s upcoming Los Angeles music festival scheduled for February 11 at the Shrine auditorium, featuring Lil Wayne, Diplo, Zedd, and, of course, DJ Diesel himself.
Having spun records for several years now, the basketball great debuted DJ Diesel in 2015 via a SoundCloud mix and went on to perform at EDM festival TomorrowWorld later that year. He also performed a club gig in Las Vegas, and for those who’ve followed his entire career know he’s been a music vet for quit some time.
In the 90s, Shaquille released four rap albums, guested on Fu-Schnickens’ Top 40 hit “What’s Up Doc? (Can We Rock?),” and even conducted the Boston Pops Orchestra in 2010, while playing for the Celtics.
Tickets and VIP tables go on sale February 7 at 10 a.m. PST via the event’s official website.
