Concurrent with celebrating their 30th anniversary, the Spice Girls shared three-decade old archival video footage that followed the audition process.
What was to become the biggest girl group of all time, the now British women took to X (formerly Twitter) with “Today marks the 30th anniversary of the very first Spice Girls auditions.” “What started back in 1994 has turned into an amazing journey, way beyond anything we could have ever imagined. Thank you to our fans for your support from day one #FriendshipNeverEnds.”
Among hundreds of others potential members, it was in March of 1994, that Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, and Emma Bunton entered into continuous rounds of auditions until the group was narrowed down to the select five that would soon become the Spice Girls.
Introduced to the world on the strength of their debut single “Wannabe” in 1996, the years that followed included a collection of hit singles, three hit LPs, and their 1997 film Spice World. And notwithstanding Beckham (aka Posh,) their 2019 reunion tour brought their Girl Power across the United Kingdom for the first time in more than a decade.
