Following widespread criticism for performing at Donald Trump‘s inaugural Crypto Ball on Friday (1.17) in the presence of celebrities and politicians, Snoop Dogg has weighed in accordingly.
Organized to confirm the President-Elect’s support for cryptocurrency as well as solidify his pledge to integrate bitcoin into the country’s financial systems, Snoop performed ‘Nuthin’ but a G Thang’ at the party.
After taking to Instagram with a clip of his performance, the superstar rapper (born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.,) was slammed by his fans who posted such comments as:
“This is culturally embarrassing and disrespectful as f**k,” wrote one person, and “Even Snoop Dogg bent knee to Donald Trump. Never thought I’d see that,” wrote another.
Responding to the push back, Snoop re-posted a video of fellow event performer, Rick Ross, saying “Got a real Crip up in the Crypto Ball, bang bang,” followed by a peace sign and a smiling.
The now 53-year musician’s recent appearance at the Trump event is in direct contract to his 2017 video for his song ‘Lavender,’ which showed him aiming a gun at a clown dressed as Trump. In the film the rapper pulls the trigger to reveal a red flag with the word BANG after which Donald responded by saying Snoop should be arrested.
In 2024, however, the rapper praised the incoming President, claiming he “has done only great things” for him.
