According to a recently filed lawsuit, four women have accused Smokey Robinson of alleged rape and sexual assault.
Obtained by People magazine, the complaint against Robinson and his wife, Frances, by the four former employees also accuses the legendary musician of sexual battery, false imprisonment and gender violence.
The plaintiffs claim that the now 85-year old singer/songwriter’s alleged sexual battery was “wilful, wanton and malicious, with a conscious disregard” of their “rights, privacy and feelings”.
In the complaint, Jane Doe 1 claims that the former Motown record executive’s wife allegedly had “full knowledge of his prior acts of sexual misconduct” and “failed to take the appropriate corrective action”, even after settling cases with other women who experienced similar assaults.
Jane Doe 1 alleges that the first sexual assault occurred in March 2023, and she experienced “repeated sexual assaults and sexual harassment” against her.
Jane Doe 2 claims she worked for the defendants from 2014 to 2020 when she was “forced to resign” due to Robinson’s “repeated sexual assaults and sexual harassment”.
Jane Doe 3 worked as a housekeeper for Robinson from 2012 until 2024, when she was allegedly forced to resign due to his repeated incidents of “sexual assaults and sexual harassment against her”. She claims in the complaint that Robinson raped her at least 20 times.”
A fourth housekeeper alleged in the complaint that she worked for Robinson from 2006 to 2024 and was allegedly forced to resign due to “repeated sexual assaults and sexual harassment”.
Smokey and Frances Robinson have been married since 2002 and have yet to comment on the allegations.
