Having resorted to “very unhealthy” tactics to lose weight, Shania Twain revealed that she once became “malnourished.”
Admitting that she once did “very unhealthy things” to be thinner, the superstar singer/songwriter was candid about her relationship with her body image.
In an interview with The Times, the now 60-years-old, the iconic songstress said she went through a stage during her 2019 Las Vegas residency where she couldn’t stand to look at her own reflection, adding:
“I stopped looking at myself in the mirror. I hated my body.” “I’m, like, ‘Oh, I cannot stand this changing body.’ But that was so unhealthy. Who cannot look at themselves in the mirror?”
Explaining that her body was changing due to her age, and the techniques she used to maintain her figure were no longer effective, the multi-Grammy award winner, explained “So all of a sudden I’m bloating, and I’m definitely not in control. I can’t just lose five pounds.” “I was doing very unhealthy things. And I was working my body more than I was feeding it to keep up with the strain.”
Confessing that her desire “to be thinner” ultimately led her to be “malnourished”, and sustaining a thigh injury on stage during her residency at the time, the Canadian-born musician noted that the menopause has been “very good” for her self-image, and she now feels more positive about her looks.
“Now I’m like, bring on the mirrors, I’m going to look at myself all day long!” she said with a laugh. “Menopause has been very good for me because I’ve learned that some things you cannot control.”
